Pediatric Dentistry You Can Trust

At the office of Carolyn S. Moody, D.M.D., we offer a variety of services to ensure that young patients receive the best dental care available. We understand that going to the dentist can cause anxiety for both children and their parents. Our entire staff is trained to help every patient feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Services we offer include, but are not limited to:

Preventive Care

Preventive care is the cornerstone of good oral health. At the office of Carolyn S. Moody, D.M.D., we use routine dental cleanings as an opportunity to educate our young patients on proper hygiene techniques. We also give parents tips on helping their children build a lifetime of healthy oral habits.

During your child’s dental cleaning, our hygienist will clean your child’s teeth and our dentist will perform a complete examination. Should your child require additional restorative services, our dentist will explain the necessary treatments and answer any questions you may have.

Restorative Care

Should your child require additional dental care, Dr. Moody will review the prescribed treatment following your child’s examination, answer your questions, and have our staff schedule the next appointment. Our team will do their best to preserve your child’s primary teeth until they are lost naturally, by utilizing modern, dental techniques.

Dental Sealants

Dental Sealants are an important preventative measure that helps prevent decay on children’s permanent molars. Dr. Moody recommends that sealants be placed to help preserve your child’s teeth, and would be happy to discuss the benefits of sealants at your child’s next appointment!

Digital X-rays

X-rays are one of the most valuable tools a dentist has for diagnosing problems in the teeth and jaws. Not all issues can be detected by a visual examination alone. Especially in children, x-rays are used to monitor tooth growth and development as well as decay—helping us to keep their mouth and teeth healthy all along the way. Digital radiographs are one of the newest x-ray techniques around and will become the standard for the future!

Our office is proud to provide this technology to our patients. Instead of using a traditional dark room, the images are sent electronically to a computer where it can then be easily viewed, stored, sent or printed. This technology and software produces much higher quality images, 90% less radiation and can be more comfortable for the patient than traditional films.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a great agent used to help prevent tooth decay. It is naturally present in different amounts in almost all foods and water supplies. Benefits of using fluoride have been well known for over 50 years and are supported by many health and professional organizations.

Works in two ways:

As a topical fluoride it helps to strengthen the patient's teeth once they have erupted by getting into the outer surface of the tooth enamel, helping to make the teeth more resistant to decay. We gain topical fluoride by using fluoride containing dental products such as toothpaste, mouth rinses, and gels.

Systemic fluoride strengthens teeth that have erupted, and those that are still developing under the gums. Systemic fluoride is gained from most foods and our water supply. It is also available as a supplement in drop or gel form and can be prescribed by your dentist or physician. Usually, fluoride drops are recommended for infants, and tablets are best suited for children up through the teen years.

Mouthguards are a very helpful way for your child to prevent dental injuries, especially during sports. We can create a custom form-fitting mouthguard for your child right in our office!
